Where Evans feels he lost the title to Ogier

Elfyn Evans missed out on the 2025 World Rally Championship by just four points to Sébastien OgierPhotography by ToyotaWords by Luke BarryFor the fourth time in his career, Elfyn Evans finished second in the World Rally Championship in 2025.For the third time, he was runner-up to Sébastien Ogier.Evans led the season after 10 of the 14 events, but ultimately fell short by just four points – the closest he’s ever come to that elusive maiden world title.Ogier was quick to pay tribute to his team-mate and rival, declaring “there is only a great champion when you have a great opponent” and Evans has been “super strong pushing us to the limit to the very last stage of the year”.But where does Evans feel he ultimately lost this battle?“There were probably a few too many key battles where I came off second best to really make the difference,” he told DirtFish.“Japan, Chile, Canaries against Séb especially. We probably were in the ballpark to take him on for the win and didn’t in the end come through. I think there’s many moments in the season where that point swing would have made a huge difference.”Evans only beat and outscored Ogier once in 2025 – at Central European Rally, when a puncture sent Ogier off the road while he was running second. With eyes already on 2026, Evans knows where he needs to improve.“I think we have to take a bit more risk,” he said, “but of course one of my strengths has always been my consistency and you know you can’t neglect that completely because at the end of the day there’s still three previous champions behind us in the championship, so it’s not all bad.“But obviously Séb has been on another level to the rest of us this year and of course to try and take him on needs a bit more… perhaps a bit more aggression.”Words:Luke Barry Tags: Elfyn Evans, Rally Saudi Arabia, Rally Saudi Arabia 2025, WRC, WRC 2025 Publish Date November 29, 2025 DirtFish https://dirtfish-editorial.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/2025/11/qRdarfhN-Ogier14KSA25mj260-780x520.jpg November 29, 2025 Up Next
