ARA National rally winner Conner Martell will focus on the French Gravel championship in 2026 and is plotting WRC outings this seasonWords by Luke BarryLeading American Rally Association (ARA) driver Conner Martell is heading for Europe and the World Rally Championship in 2026.The 28-year-old, former rallycross racer made a full-time switch to rallying in 2024 and claimed his first ARA National victory last year, driving a Ć koda Fabia RS Rally2 run by 2C CompĂ©tition.Martell also took part in the final round of the French Gravel championship, Rallye Terre du Vaucluse, where he finished second overall alongside co-driver Alex Gelsomino. That gave him a taste for rallying in Europe, where he’ll remain this year with a French Gravel championship campaign and “select” rounds of the WRC.Martell scored a podium finish on his French Gravel championship debut at Rallye Terre de Vaucluse last yearPrecise details on his program are light, with “additional details on vehicle specification and event schedule” to be announced “soon”.Martell is also said to be considering a few ARA events too, but funding is not yet secured. He said: “I’m excited to extend my rally career into Europe after such a successful year in the American Rally Association with 2C CompĂ©tition.“European rallying has always been the pinnacle of the sport, and reaching that level is any competitive driver’s goal. Competing at Rallye Terre de Vaucluse definitely inspired me about future possibilities.“We’re still hoping to do a few select ARA rounds too if we can secure sponsorship.”Martell hasn't ruled out a return to rallying Stateside in 2026 – but would need to find additional budget to do soWhile Martell has never competed in the world championship, Gelsomino has several years’ experience alongside the likes of Gus Greensmith and the late Ken Block.“I’m very much looking forward to being back with Conner and 2C CompĂ©tition in 2026 for some French Rally Championship and WRC events,” the Italian added.“2025 was a massive step forward for us as a team, with strong progression at every event in both speed and results. Competing in the French Gravel series and the WRC will be the perfect evolution of Conner’s career, and I can’t wait to start testing in preparation.”Words:Luke Barry Tags: Conner Martell, WRC 2026 Publish Date January 12, 2026 DirtFish https://dirtfish-editorial.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/2026/01/YSWpNvUw-C.Martell-A.Gelsomino-Fabia-RS-Rally2-Vaucluse-25-348-780x520.jpg January 12, 2026 Up Next
