Mercedes-AMG’s New Hyper Sedan Sheds Most Of Its Camo At Vegas GP

The electric AMG GT 4-Door is almost ready for its big debut https://www.carscoops.com/author/mikecarscoops-com/ by Michael Gauthier 22 minutes ago by Michael Gauthier Mercedes revealed a lightly camouflaged GT 4-Door prototype in Las Vegas. The new model is a radical departure inspired by the AMG GT XX concept. It rides on the AMG.EA platform with advanced axial flux electric motors. The Las Vegas Grand Prix took place last weekend and the city had more walls than Berlin in 1961. This made German automakers feel right at home and Mercedes used the event to showcase the redesigned GT 4-Door.Sporting a colorful wrap and noticeably less camouflage than previous prototypes, the high-performance EV follows in the footsteps of the AMG GT XX concept and features starry headlights as well as a fully enclosed grille. We can also see vertical air curtains as well as a subtle splitter.More: Mercedes-AMG’s Electrifying Sport Sedan Reveals Its Inner Secrets In New Spy PhotosMoving further back, there’s a rakish windscreen that flows into a sloping roof. The model also sports streamlined bodywork and flush-mounted door handles. While the rear end is still a hodgepodge of components, the lower bumper appears production ready. The few interior glimpses don’t reveal much, but previous spy photos have shown the model will have a flat-bottom steering wheel and a freestanding, curved display that echoes the one in the concept. Mercedes has been teasing the car for nearly two years and the company has already confirmed it will ride on the all-new AMG.EA platform. This has been billed as a “technological trailblazer” that uses a mix of aluminum, steel, and fiber composite materials to offer lightness and “exceptional rigidity.”Besides the new platform, we can expect a high-tech battery and up to three axial flux motors. The latter enabled the concept to produce a combined output of more than 1,341 hp (1,000 kW / 1,360 PS). The production model will likely be less powerful, although Mercedes-AMG has a lot riding on the new GT 4-Door and a related crossover. --> TAGS AMG Mercedes Mercedes AMG Mercedes AMG GT 4 Mercedes Videos teaser Video Follow us on Google News MSN Start Follow Carscoops on Google News Follow Carscoops on MSN Start Michael Gauthier Editor Hailing from Metro Detroit, it was practically destiny for Michael Gauthier to dive headfirst into...
