The Pink Floyd Edition Golf Cabriolet Mk3 is a limited run of special edition cars VW produced to mark its sponsorship of major European rock tours in the 1990s.By ROB HULL, MOTORING EDITOR Rock legend and lifelong petrol head Nick Mason, 81, will auction off a rare car next month - and it happens to have a strong connection to his famous band. The rare Pink Floyd Edition 1995 Golf Cabriolet Mk3 is one of a limited run of special edition cars Volkswagen produced to mark its sponsorship of major European rock tours in the 1990s. The German car giant also produced limited edition Rolling Stones and Bon Jovi variants, all of which featured band logos across the bodywork, seats and gear knob - and, of course, an upgraded sound system. European Tour edition Golf hatchback and Cabriolet variants were produced, though sold in extremely small volumes. In fact, DVLA records show Mason's Pink Floyd convertible is a unicorn model in Britain, with the last UK-registered example taken off the road in 2013. Mason's car is German registered, though is a right-hand-drive example, making it prime for a UK collector. While not in the most pristine condition - showing signs of rust around the front wheel arches as well as some missing trim and a catalogue of mechanical issues - the car is being sold direct from the Pink Floyd drummer's personal garage to raise funds for charity. And to enhance its collectability, Mason has inked his signature on the dashboard to boost its appeal to Pink Floyd enthusiasts. The auction lot will also include exclusive Pink Floyd memorabilia, all signed by the drummer. High Hopes: Rock legend and lifelong petrol head Nick Mason, 81, is auctioning off a rare Pink Floyd Edition VW Golf Cabriolet from his personal collection in a bid to raise funds for charity Mason has spent the last half a century collecting and racing classic cars.  His envious garage includes a raft of thoroughbred Ferraris, namely a 1953 250MM, an F40, a GTB/4 Daytona, a LaFerrari hypercar and a 512 S that featured in Steve McQueen's 1971 movie, Le Mans. He even has one of only 39 Ferrari 250 GTOs, which is worth more than £30million. But while his VW Golf is rare, it doesn't quite sit in the same esteemed bracket as his fleet of high-value Fezzas.  The 1995 car was produced by VW to commemorate the 1994 European leg of the band's Division Bell Tour. But Mason wasn't gifted it as part of the deal.  Money: The car will be sold to the highest bidder with no reserve, though should go for a decent amount given a plethora of signed memorabilia making up the auction lot To enhance the car's collectability, Mason has inked his signature on the dashboard to boost its appeal to Pink Floyd enthusiasts The lot, which goes under the hammer next month, is expected to attract both car collectors and Pink Floyd enthusiasts  Instead, he sourced and purchased the well-worn Pink Floyd Edition Golf Cabrio 'several years ago' with the intention of restoring it.  Though the work was never completed, it is accompanied by an extensive selection of parts to return it to its former glory. This includes a set of four original wheels. The auction house says this makes the lot an ideal opportunity for a Volkswagen enthusiast or Pink Floyd devotee to restore it with added provenance and purpose.  It will be sold by Iconic Auctioneers on Saturday 8 November at the NEC in Birmingham with no reserve - and all funds raised will be donated to Harefield Healing Garden Charity on the orders from the Pink Floyd founding member. Though he never did get around to the restoration  The extremely rare cars have bespoke Pink Floyd seats, with the brand named embroidered into the headrests and album artwork etched into the seat backs The 1995 car was produced by VW to commemorate the 1994 European leg of the band's Division Bell Tour. But Mason wasn't gifted it as part of the deal Even the gear stick has a bespoke Pink Floyd logo, which was exclusive to this limited run of cars  Mason's is German registered example, though is a right-hand-drive example, making it prime for a UK car collector. There are no UK-spec versions on the road today According to the listing, the auction represents an 'unrepeatable opportunity to acquire a Pink Floyd Edition Golf Cabriolet owned by a member of the band, complete with signed memorabilia and direct provenance from Nick.' It continues: 'Volkswagen's collaboration with Pink Floyd in the early 1990s resulted in one of the company's most distinctive limited editions.  'The model included special Pink Floyd badging, colour-matched bumpers and mirrors, bespoke seat upholstery, and a premium sound system bearing factory Pink Floyd logos.  'Today, this edition is extremely rare, with very few surviving examples in original condition.' A sales brochure provided with the car show the limited-edition model in its past glory Though Mason failed to complete the restoration, the car is being sold with an extensive selection of parts to return it to its former glory. This includes a set of four original wheels, pictured here along with all the signed memorabilia that is being sold with the car While not in the most pristine condition - showing signs of rust around the front wheel arches (as seen here) as well as some missing trim and a catalogue of mechanical issues - the car is being sold direct from the Pink Floyd drummer's personal garage Adding to its appeal, the Golf is offered with a remarkable collection of signed memorabilia from Nick Mason, including a pair of signed drumsticks, signed copy of Into the Red (Mason's book on classic racing cars), four signed vinyl albums and an original Pink Floyd and VW-branded T-shirt from when the limited edition model was launched. Speaking about the charity the funds will be raised for, Mason said: 'The Garden is particularly important to our family, as both a family member, as well as two close friends, have been patients at Harefield.  'Supporting the garden represents a small gesture of thanks that can be of benefit to patients, visitors and staff.' Rob Hubbard, managing director at Iconic Auctioneers, said: 'We're honoured to be entrusted with this meaningful charity lot.'
