The man who made Monte Carlo Rally history

Elliott Edmondson joins SPIN, The Rally Pod to discuss his Monte Carlo victory and career to datePhotography by ToyotaBy his own admission, he was under-dressed for the occasion.ā€œWe didĀ not go to the rally with a suit because I cannot say we expected to win,ā€ he smiled. It’s long been tradition that the winners of the Monte Carlo Rally receive an automatic invitation to dinner at Automobile Club de Monaco on the Sunday night.Last Sunday night, it was Oliver Solberg and Elliott Edmondson’s names on the invitation.ā€œIt was a real privilegeĀ to be invited,ā€ Edmondson told DirtFish. ā€œEveryone made us feel very welcome.ā€Mixing it with the best is something the British co-driver is growing very accustomed to. Victory at last week’s season opener earned him and Solberg their second world championship win in as many starts for Toyota, and the lead of the world championship for the first time. But another accolade also came with Edmondson’s Monte Carlo victory: he is the only English co-driver to have won it as a WRC event, and the first Briton since Terry Harryman in 1985 (alongside Ari Vatanen).Edmondson is a special guest on SPIN, The Rally Pod as he reflects on that achievement with David Evans, diving deeper into his and Solberg’s performance – including the incredible reaction from the stop-line to their 31s stage win – as well as his career from an eager 17-year-old to one of the best co-drivers in the world.
