Details Leak For Lotus Eletre Plug-In Hybrid

To say life at Lotus hasn’t been smooth lately feels a bit of an understatement. While the Emira still lives on strong, the electric Eletre and Emeya were supposed to be volume sellers, and Lotus simply hasn’t sold enough of them. In a bid to turn the fortunes of one of those, the Norfolk-based brand is set to introduce its first plug-in hybrid in January, and now details have leaked. Lotus Eletre - rear As picked up by Motor1, a filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has revealed pretty much the full specifications of the inbound Lotus Eletre plug-in hybrid. A 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine will directly power the front wheels, though it can also double up as a generator for a 70kWh battery pack, thought to be taken from the Zeekr 9X. Worth reminding you now that both Lotus and Zeekr are owned by Geely, so that comes as no shock. We don’t have exact power figures at this stage, though Lotus has previously said the system can deliver 939bhp. It should also return up to 621 miles of range on a full battery and a brimmed tank of fuel, along with a max charging rate north of 400kW. That’s rapid by EV standards, let alone a plug-in hybrid. Lotus Eletre 900 As for weight, the MIIT filing says the plug-in hybrid Eletre will tip the scales at a max of 2625kg. Not exactly a case of simplify and add lightness, then, but that does put it about 100kg down on the current range-topping 900 EV. Oh, and in China, the car will be sold as the Lotus For Me, for… reasons. We suspect that won’t be the case when it comes to the UK late next year, more likely taking on a more conventional PHEV suffix to the existing Eletre name. No word yet on an Emeya hybrid, either, but don’t be shocked to see one follow soon after.
